Presbyterian Church in America

PCA
A — Broadly Reformed

Overview

The Presbyterian Church in America was organized in 1973 when conservative congregations and sessions withdrew from the mainline Presbyterian Church in the US rather than accept its drift on biblical authority, ordained ministry, and social teaching. The PCA subscribes to the Westminster Confession and Catechisms and is governed by presbyteries and a General Assembly. It is today the second-largest Presbyterian body in North America, with broad evangelical reach through campus ministry (RUF) and world missions (MTW). AskCredo ranks the PCA in the A-tier: broadly Reformed and confessional, while noting a continuationist minority and ongoing debate over the strictness of confessional subscription.
