Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus

EECMY, Mekane Yesus
B — Broadly orthodox

Overview

The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus ("place of Jesus") is among the largest Lutheran bodies in the world, grown from Swedish, German, and American Lutheran mission work beginning in the 1860s and formally established in 1959. The EECMY holds Lutheran confessional standards, practices infant baptism, and maintains biblical sexual ethics — a posture that in 2013 led it to sever fellowship with the ELCA and the Church of Sweden over their abandonment of the same. AskCredo places the EECMY in the B-tier as a broadly orthodox Lutheran body that has publicly defended historic Christian teaching against Western revisionism.
