Christology
The Person and Work of Christ
13 questions
Christology is the doctrine of the person and work of Jesus Christ — the eternal Son of God who assumed a true human nature for the salvation of his people. The historic Christian church confesses Christ as truly God and truly man, united in one Person "without confusion, without change, without division, without separation" (Chalcedon, AD 451). Westminster Confession 8 and Belgic Confession 18–19 articulate this hypostatic union and its saving significance.
Christ is prophet, priest, and king. As prophet he reveals the Father; as priest he offers himself as the once-for-all propitiation for sin (Hebrews 9:26); as king he rules his church and will return to judge the living and the dead. The munus triplex frames the whole of his mediatorial office.
These questions explore who Jesus is, why he came, his miracles, his death, his bodily resurrection, his ascension, his present intercession at the Father's right hand, and the glorified state of our own future resurrection bodies. Christology is the heart of the gospel: "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1).
