Biblical Inerrancy

Biblical inerrancy is the teaching that the Scriptures, in their original autographs, are entirely truthful and without error in all they affirm. This conviction rests upon the character of God, who is truth itself and the divine author of the Bible.

The Divine Origin of Scripture

Because God is the Author of Scripture, the Bible is invested with His own divine authority. As affirmed in the 1689 LBCF Ch.1 §4, the authority of Scripture dependeth not upon the testimony of any man or church, but wholly upon God, who is truth itself. This mirrors the Belgic Confession Art.3, which states that the Word of God was not delivered by the will of man, but by holy men who spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. We receive the Bible as inerrant because it is the very Word of the One who cannot lie.

A Gracious Revelation

Inerrancy is not merely a theoretical doctrine; it is a vital necessity for our salvation. Because we are finite and sinful, we could never know the mind of the infinite God unless He revealed it to us. The Bible contains the marks of the divine mind, providing a sure guide for faith and life. As the Apostle Paul writes, 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us: 'Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness.' This perfect, God-breathed word is the only rule of faith and obedience, ensuring we are not left to our own flawed reason.
